When King Daksha refused to invite his Son-in-law Lord Shiva for his humongous yajna, his daughter, Goddess Sati died by self immolation after jumping into the same yajna fire.

This invited the wrath of her husband – Lord Shiva towards King Daksha and his supporters. In this chaos, the Sun God agreed with King Daksha’s decision of not inviting Lord Shiva. So, Lord Shiva’s wrath dimmed the brilliance of the Sun God.

In Bargarh, Odisha world’s largest open air theatre festival is held during the entire fortnight followed by Dhanu Sankranti. This is called Dhanu Yatra. The whole city is imitated in the image of real Mathura.

The actors enact the entire story of Lord Krishna. The story starts with King Ugrasen till the killing of King Kansa by his nephew Lord Krishna. Many experts say that the performance is the symbolic presentation of the freedom struggle.
