Lunar Eclipse: The game of shadows in the cosmic ground

Everybody has a little bit of the sun and moon in them. Everybody has a little bit of man, woman, and animal in them. Darks and lights in them. Everyone is part of a connected cosmic system- Suzy Kassem

Our entire solar system is a set of planets which revolve around the sun in their respective orbits. During this motion they often cross paths with each other. Likewise sun, earth, and moon too cross their paths and such moments create significant cosmic events called eclipses.

Lunar Eclipse: What is it?

Lunar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon where the moon enters the shadow of the earth and loses its luminance. During a lunar eclipse the Moon's orbital plane is closest to the earth.

This cosmological event has paramount importance in astrology as well. In astrology, the moon and sun are two luminaries that represent mind and soul for humans. So, any effect or aberration in their usual orbital behavior brings a lot of challenges.

In Vedic astrology, an eclipse is regarded as Karmic reset. They reveal truths so we can come out of our illusions and seek clarity in our life. Many Karmic debts are paid, so many chapters close and open simultaneously in our lives. In a nutshell, eclipses boost our karmic cycle and set us on our destined path.

Lunar eclipse in Hinduism is a religious  phenomenon. It is said when the bodyless head of demon Rahu swallows either the sun or the moon an eclipse occurs.

Rahu is a karmic planet which is also known as the north node of the moon. When the Karma meets the mind(moon) or the (soul) an explosive karmic energy is released.

To protect from negative energies of this combination Hindu temples remain closed. They are cleansed after the eclipses and then opened for the public.

Additionally, Hindus are advised to abstain from food, physical intimacy, and entertainment. The eclipse is an opportunity to chant divine mantra and introspection.

Overall Impact: How will the things unfold

The eclipse will commence at 9:57pm IST on 7 th September 2025 and will end at 1:26am IST on 8 th September 2025, which is roughly 3 hours and 29 minutes.

It will be totally visible in India hence will have a complete impact on us. The sutak i.e. rules (niyama) need to be followed. The Sutak will start 4 hours prior to the actual eclipse around 6pm(IST) .

The total lunar eclipse is taking place in Aquarius i.e. kumbha rashi in Purvabhadrapada nakshatra. This nakshatra is ruled by Jupiter which is a fierce constellation. The Aquarius is an air sign so air travel, IT field, AI will face issues in smooth functioning. There may be a rise in air borne diseases and pollution. Things will move at warp speed so people will find it hard to take a grasp of it.

On the other side of the Aquarius axis in Leo, Sun and Ketu are in close conjunction along with Mercury which is combust.

Such a planetary synergy may push manipulation and false narratives from the media. Miscommunication in personal lives will be common. It is in best interest to take caution while believing social media forwards, media sponsored stories and gossip tabloids.

Remedies: A to-do list to mitigate the negativity

  • Eclipses come with darkness and negative vibes. Taking a bath before the eclipse and practicing spiritual activities like mantra chanting, meditation protects your aura from the negativity.
  • Temples shut their doors during eclipses to protect their energy circle. This is a reminder that our energy aura is highly contagious, and we must fiercely protect it.
  • Since planet Moon is getting eclipsed,  worshiping Lord Shiva can help you strengthen your moon to resist the unwanted ill effects. A simple Shiva mantra - ‘Om namah Shivay’ would be easy to chant and effective too.
  • The eclipse brings Saturn-Rahu in proximity. Both these planets can be subdued by worshipping Lord Hanuman. Chanting the powerful Hanuman Chalisa or Hanuman stotra can turn the tide in your favour.
  • Chanting the mantra given by your Guru is also recommended for those who have taken diksha
  • Keep a Tulsi leaf in the water and in cooked food before sutak, that you wish to consume during and after the time of eclipse. However it is good to avoid any form of food intake 2 hours before and till the time the eclipse ends.
