In other words, a total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, completely blocking out the Sun's light and casting a shadow on the Earth.

It is an event that only occurs in a specific region for a few minutes at a time.

With the date of all the eclipse happening this year, let us focus on the upcoming solar eclipse and its potential influence in brief.

Total Solar Eclipse 2023

Before I give you an in-depth understanding of this upcoming solar eclipse and its technicalities, let us understand the basics first.

Occurance of the Solar Eclipse is as follows (based on IST, Pune):

Date: 20th April 2023

Start Time: 7.04 am

Maximum Eclipse is at 9.46 am

Eclipse ends at 12.29 pm

With the dates out of the way, let us dive deeper into understanding more about the phenomena.

This is the first eclipse of the year, which is happening on April 20, 2023, as I mentioned earlier. It is happening on Chaitra Amavasya according to the Hindu calendar.

As per local Panchang, the eclipse will not be visible in India., Hence the Sutak rituals won’t be applicable.

The Sun is exalted in Aries and is getting eclipsed. Pay close attention to your health, as the atmosphere will be impacted by this cosmic phenomenon for quite some time.

The eclipse occurs in the Aries sign (Mesha rashi) when the Sun and Moon are in tight conjunction in the Ashwini Nakshatra Pada (2) at 5 degrees, along with Rahu in Ashwini 4th pada with Ketu in swati pada 2, in tula rashi. Additionally, during the total solar eclipse, we will also have Uranus and Mercury in Aries (Mesha) sign.

The period before, during and after an eclipse is a fairly unstable time that affects people’s minds, bodies and decision-making skills too. Consulting an astrologer during this period is fruitful if you are experiencing turmoil in your life or have to make significant decisions that will impact your life in the future.

• During the eclipse season, from April 14 to May 15, we might witness a spike in Covid cases. Wear masks and carry sanitisers for safety.
• Be cautious, as community riots might happen during this period due to conflicts in social, political or religious views.
• There are heightened risks of road rage, accidents, crashes, etc., so drive safely and with complete attention on the road.

• During this period, ensure you are being extra watchful about your finances. Avoid rash spending and unwanted purchases.

• Now is not an ideal period to make investments or related decisions.
• Litigation matters might be triggered, so remain watchful and have the necessary resources to work through the shortcomings.
• You might book tickets for foreign travel; just beware Mercury being retrograde, and you may end up spending more.

3. Gemini - Mithuna Rashi

Remedies to Overcome the Eclipse Period

Following are a few remedies which can help you tide through the rough tidings of the upcoming eclipse period:

• Avoid alcohol or any kinds of deep-fried foods or spicy foods since that can lead to risks of digestive issues.
• Worshipping Lord Shiva may be highly beneficial for you. A simple chant like “Om Namah Shivay” can help you be at ease.
• Chanting a simple mantra of Surya deva like “Om Surya Namah” or Surya Gayatri Mantra is highly advisable.
• Chanting any mantra during this period augments the impacts exponentially. It is said that chanting can give 100 times more results than regular times. So make the best use of this time.
• Meditation, Chakra dhyana could be highly experiential and deep if one practices the same during this period.
• Shower before 7 AM and avoid heavy meals during the eclipse period.
